The facility maintenance lead will perform general inspections, troubleshooting, and repair of all types of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm, and facility systems. The facility maintenance lead will work in conjunction with the school director of operations to coordinate repairs and will be responsible for locating and purchasing all materials necessary for repairs and maintenance. The facility maintenance lead will also schedule repairs and maintenance and ensure that all repairs are completed safely, with quality workmanship.

The facility maintenance lead will:

  • Ensure mechanical systems are regularly inspected, maintained, and repaired as needed and required for all types of facility systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm, boilers, refrigeration units, compressors, painting, landscaping and snow removal to maintain school building infrastructure and grounds.
  • Perform and/or ensure routine preventive maintenance, occurs on facility systems and equipment
  • Responsible for tracking progress of repairs.
  • Ensure equipment, tools, and work areas are maintained in a clean, safe way.
  • Have a general understanding of national and local building and fire codes.
  • Coordinating and leading work tasks with maintenance technicians, with other employees and sub-contractors.
  • Required to work with, schedule and coordinate sub-contractors.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ensure bi weekly surveys of buildings occur to identify repairs and preventative maintenance needs.
  • Report to school director of operations on a regular basis (bi-weekly) on conditions relative to maintenance activities in their facility.
  • Responsible for coordination and participating in training and continued professional development in the areas of advancing technology, safety, and general skill improvement.
  • Available for ON CALL duty on nights, weekends and holidays to address emergencies

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Track and purchase supplies for maintenance and repairs projects.
  • Participate in budget development as required.
  • Adhere to maintenance and repairs budgets.
  • Process material spend, manage subcontractors, send PO's for approval.


  • Have a working knowledge of all trades related to the facility maintenance
  • Extensive mechanical ability and aptitude on all mechanical systems
  • Average computer skills are required
  • Proven ability to work professionally and cooperate with others
  • Demonstrates attention to detail in all facets of position
  • Develops and implements cost saving measures
  • Conserves organizational resources
  • 3 to 5 years related experience in facility maintenance
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, city regulations
  • Ability to apply concepts such as formulas, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with multipole variables
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions

Physical demands

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities during a normal work-day: stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb or balance, talk, hear and smell
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds 1/3 of time at work
  • Must have the following vision requirement: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception

Work environment


Must be able to perform duties under the following environmental conditions:

  • work near moving mechanical parts;
  • work in high, precarious places with potential exposure to work environments containing fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals;
  • outdoor weather conditions;
  • extreme cold and heat (non-weather); and
  • risk of electrical shock and occasional loud noise.
