What is Building Analytics and Why Should We Care?

Webinar Date:
March 23, 2016 at at 1:30 pm ET

Building analytics programs are like having a butler and an accountant watching your house. The butler will ensure things are organized and operating the way you want it, and then tell you when they are not. The accountant will let you know how much things are costing you when systems are not operating as intended and what the costs will be if you don’t get it organized. Solid information is needed to make any decision. Building analytics is a great way to get this information from your building management systems, controls, and various building systems. Analytics can organize and present the data in such a way that it is easier to make highly informed decisions. Whether it's to upgrade a central plant, or estimating costs of a rogue pump, quality real time data will always help. The webinar will cover common concerns such as initial costs, staffing, data storage, and integration with current systems. Lastly, the webinar will review the benefits to Salt Lake Community College, including benefits that have been realized.

Presenter:
Daniel Hansen, Director Operations and Maintenance, Salt Lake Community College

Daniel Hansen started in building maintenance when he was 17 years old and is still enjoying it after 17 more years. He started in preventative maintenance at Utah Valley University and moved into programming their Building Automated Systems. He is now the Director over the HVAC and Energy departments at Salt Lake Community College's six campuses. He has finished up a couple degrees in HVAC and IT and still plugging along for more. His passion to use data to improve campus central plant systems and building automation have led him to pursue the use of building analytics on the College's numerous campuses.
