Welcome & Parade of States, Sponsors & Exhibitors

Parade of States – What are other states working on? What are their current projects and future projects? This Parade gives each state representative 2 minutes to share his/her priorities and to learn how their counterparts are addressing challenges and opportunities. It also sets the groundwork for conversations with colleagues for the duration of the conference.

Parade of Sponsors – This parade provides our conference sponsors with the opportunity to introduce their products and services in two minutes. Contributions from our sponsors enable NASFA to provide the quality programming on state facilities issues that the public and private sector need as well as the events that bring you together as colleagues. Please attend this session and support our sponsors, who support us.

Parade of Exhibitors - Finding time to absorb and digest information on the latest technology, products, and services challenges all facilities professionals. This year’s Parade of Exhibitors will help you meet this need. This Parade will consist of exhibitors demonstrating their products and services in two minutes.

Prioritizing Deferred Maintenance
Facing the challenge of documenting and prioritizing deferred maintenance across a portfolio of more than 3,000 buildings and over 8 million square feet, TXDOT instituted a statewide facility condition assessment to help them justify capital budgets over the current biennium.  The FCA also included an effort to capture equipment inventory to populate their new IWMS system for centralized operations and maintenance which also provides continuous updates of FCA data.

Alternative Construction Procurement Methods, Advantages & Disadvantages
As more States are beginning to use Construction Management at Risk as a vehicle to procure construction services, this presentation will provide an overview of how Montana and Virginia utilize this process. Active Shooter Detection
Participants will learn how proven available technology can be utilized to eliminate time wasted in dealing with an active shooter.  Key areas explored: Assessing confirmation of active shooter within one second of initial shot fired, providing accurate information to various systems, such as access control, once an active shooter has been confirmed, and directing responders to engage appropriate actions inside and outside the organization utilizing accurate information provided by various technology methods.

With fiscal constraints, many facilities departments struggle to justify maintenance and repair projects, yet they are expected to keep their facilities operating efficiently.  In this session, a four-pillared strategy addressing metering, energy projects, efficient construction, and energy awareness is presented.  When followed, this strategy will help facilities departments make a business case for their energy management program while also inviting, including, and inspiring their organization to be actively involved in energy management.

Arc Flash, The NFPA 70E Standard and Your Electrical Maintenance. ARE YOU PREPARED?
The world of electrical hazards, protection and accident prevention can be a confusing place. Hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries can be avoided each year by following the NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. Be prepared by arming yourself with the knowledge of the types of electrical hazards and the effects of electrical shock from a 20-year electrical maintenance industry veteran. This session will identify the need for electrical safety as well as electrical maintenance and safety programs. Attendees will learn about arc flash hazard risk assessment, personal protective equipment (PPE) and shock and arc flash approach boundaries. Reduce your liability concerns while establishing a culture of safe work practices among employees after attending this session.

The Next Wave: Resilience Strategies and Solutions for Facilities Management
