Facilities Manager, Division of Real Estate Development & Management

The facilities manager position is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing building operations and services for the State of Florida Capitol Complex.

Pay Range:

$55,000 - $60,000

Organization Background:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Specific responsibilities of the facilities manager include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Supervise, direct & maintain a building maintenance program for the State of Florida Capitol Complex, with a total gross square footage of approximately 967,333. 
  • Responsible for maintenance of the facility systems, such as heating, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, and electric/pneumatic controls. 
  • Manage and review service contracts to ensure facility management needs are being met.
  • Independently recommend employees to be hired and conduct performance evaluations.        
  • Initiate purchase requests.
  • Manage contractor and vendor relationships.
  • Performance manage, develop and train staff.
  • Monitor expenses and payments.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of facility maintenance staff.
  • Develop and implement cost reduction initiatives.
  • Provide prompt response to requests and issues from facility occupants.

Candidate Profile Experience:

The Facilities Manager should possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in commercial facilities management, maintenance, construction or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ supervisory experience.
  • This position requires prolonged periods of time walking, standing, bending, lifting and the use of all types of ladders and occasional use of personal lift.
  • Valid and applicable driver’s license.
  • Ability to be available after hours for call backs.
  • High-rise commercial office facilities management experience is preferred.
  • Technical mechanical systems and controls experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of building operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of project management.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of procurement and contracts.
  • Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Experience in construction, maintenance and all facets of facility operation.
  • Solid computer and systems knowledge.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, facilities engineering or a related field such as project management, business management or construction management is preferred.
  • Certifications such as: Certified Property Manager (CPM), Facility Management Professional (FMP), Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or HVAC certifications are preferred. 

Reporting Relationships:

The Facilities Manager position reports to the Deputy Chief of Tallahassee Facilities, who reports to the Chief of Operations & Maintenance.
